Helen (McCann) Kinslow Ramsey

Helen (McCann) Kinslow Ramsey
November 8, 1951 ~ March 8, 2026

Helen McCann Kinslow Ramsey, 74, of Denton, Texas, peacefully went to be with God on March 8, 2026, at 1:55 a.m. in her home.

Helen was born on November 8, 1951, in Durant, Oklahoma, to James C. McCann, Sr. and Gloria M. (Heim) McCann. She grew up surrounded by a large family and carried that deep love for family with her throughout her life.

Helen proudly served in the Texas National Guard from 1981 to 1987 and became a Life Member of the National Guard Association of Texas in 1982. In 1983, she attended the United States Army Signal Center in Fort Gordon, Georgia. Dedicated to caring for others, Helen pursued a career in nursing. She attended Cooke County College, earning her LVN license in 1984, and continued her education to obtain her Registered Nurse (RN) degree in 1992.

Over the years, Helen devoted her career to helping others, working in several rehabilitation centers in Denton, Texas. She also worked at Denton Regional Hospital from 1985 to 1990 before eventually retiring from Denton State School in 2014 after many years of compassionate service.

Helen loved the open road and enjoyed taking motorcycle rides with her husband, Tommy, traveling between Texas and Oklahoma or wherever the road would take them. Many of those rides included her brother, JC, and brother-in-law Jesse, creating memories that she treasured deeply. She and her sisters also shared many fun trips to the casino, where they loved playing the slot machines. In fact, Helen even bought a smartphone so she could enjoy playing from home.

Known for her warm heart and welcoming spirit, Helen truly never met a stranger. She took pride in helping those around her and cherished every moment spent with her family, especially raising her two boys.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, James C. McCann and Gloria McCann Stover; her sisters, Linda Hutto, Agnes Corner, Rita Gatewood, and Nora McCann; her brother, Edward (Ed) McCann; her stepdaughter, Candy Taylor; and her grandson, Tony Taylor.

She is survived by her loving husband, Tommy J. Ramsey, whom she married in August 1987; her sons, Joseph Kinslow and Michael & Theresa Kinslow; and her stepdaughter, Shonna Stout and husband Joe. She is also survived by her siblings, Nancy Langly, Bernadette Patton, Mary Preston, Patty Kiser, James McCann Jr., and Grace Honea. Stepsisters Sue Colwell and Nancy Ford. Stepbrother Ronnie Stover. Helen also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Helen leaves behind many cherished grandchildren: Andrew Fortune/Kinslow, Ada Allen and husband Travis, Trevor Lorenzo, Kaitlyn Kinslow, Cord Williams, Kinze McCage, Will Houston, Samantha Houston, and her husband Antony Medrano. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Dante Allen, Carter Medrano and Berkley Williams.

Helen will be remembered for her kindness, her laughter, her love of adventure, and the deep care she showed to everyone she met. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
