Linda Karen (Roan) Rabon

Linda Karen (Roan) Rabon
September 22, 1941 ~ March 28, 2026

Linda Karen (Roan) Rabon, known to family and friends simply as Linda, passed away on March 28, 2026, in Hugo, Oklahoma, at the age of 84.

he was born on September 22, 1941, in Antlers, Oklahoma, to Homer Berry Roan and Mary Lee “Doll” (Journot) Roan. Linda lived a life marked by kindness, creativity, and selfless service, and she was deeply rooted in the communities she called home. She was a Christian woman whose faith guided the way she treated others, and she was admired for her friendly nature, her creative spirit, and her willingness to help wherever she was needed.

Linda graduated from Rattan High School in 1959 where she loved playing basketball and was captain of the team for Coach Leo Smallwood. After High School, she graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with a teaching degree and later earned her master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in counseling. She began her career as a schoolteacher in the Norman School District and later taught at several local schools, including Goodland and Ft. Towson, and served as a counselor at Valliant Schools. Through her work in education, she touched the lives of countless students and families, offering encouragement, guidance, and steady support.

Her service to the public extended well beyond the classroom. Linda served as the Choctaw County Election Board Secretary from 1988 to 1992, during which time she helped change the voting system from counting paper ballots to electronic tallies. She also served in all offices of the local Democrat Party, including Chairman, demonstrating her commitment to civic involvement and community leadership. Her efforts reflected a lifelong dedication to making her community stronger and better for those who would follow.

Linda was also a business owner and an active presence in downtown Hugo for many years at her local flower shop through Linda’s Place. She took pride in helping with downtown improvements, including the streetlamps that light the downtown area and the green spaces along the sidewalks. Her care for Hugo was evident in the many ways she contributed to its growth and beauty, and her influence will remain part of the town’s character for years to come.

When her boys were young, Linda started a local Cub Scout Pack to serve the community and provide opportunities for local children. She also worked as a caseworker for DHS, where she assisted the underprivileged and believed in giving people a hand up rather than a handout. In every role she held, Linda showed compassion, practical wisdom, and a genuine desire to improve the lives of others.

She is survived by her son, Senator Jeff Rabon of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, William Chancelor Rabon of Lawton, Oklahoma, Jeffery Warren Rabon II and his wife Kelsie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Temple Floyd Rabon of Durant, Oklahoma, Berrie Compton and her husband Cole of Hugo, Oklahoma, and Jackson Thomas Rabon and his fiancé Maggie of Durant, Oklahoma; and great-grandchildren, Willa Bell Compton, Maisyn Avery Compton, and Warren Lee Rabon. Eddie Biggers and wife Ruby Biggers.

Those who knew Linda will remember her as a woman of warmth, intelligence, and determination. She lived with purpose, loved her family deeply, and gave generously of her time and talents. Her legacy will live on in the many lives she influenced through education, public service, business, and community involvement.
