Gerald Prater

November 26, 1936 ~ March 10, 2000

GERALD PRATER - Services for Gerald Prater, 63, of Marietta, were at 3 p.m. Monday in the Marietta First Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Higle officiating.

Mr. Prater was born November 26, 1936 in Welch, Texas, the son of Jim & Lois Hansard Prater. He died March 10, 2000 in Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore.

He had made his home in Marietta for the past six years, moving here from Gainesville, Texas. He & Virginia Sloan were married March 24, 1956, in Texico, New Mexico. Mr. Prater was a retired farmer and of the Church of Christ faith.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Prater of the home; four sons and daughters-in-law, Carroll & Mitzi Spiller of Gainesville, Gerald Don & Gloria Prater of Taft, Texas, Marvin Prater of Alabama, and Basil & Stephanie Prater of Dallas, Texas; six daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy & Wade Young, and Mary & Sam Howard of Marietta, Paula & Raymond Baker of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Patsy Prater and Sherri & Earl Bryant of Ardmore, and Teresa & Donnie Cavitt of Thackerville; two sisters, Helen Armstrong of Amarillo, Texas, and Evelyn Miller of Lubbock, Texas; 28 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Prater was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and seven grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers were sons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers were David Prater, Steven Spiller, Jessie Prater, Brian Howard and Chris Chism.

Services were under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.
