James Lee Porter Sr. was born October 10, 1961, to Glenn A. Porter Sr. and Shirley J. (Whitley) Porter in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He passed from this life January 16, 2025, at his home in Shawnee, with his loving family by his side.
James grew up in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee High School. He went to work as an electrician and belonged to the IBEW 1141 Electrician Union. He worked as an electrician for over 40 years. He loved the outdoors. James Jr. said he was a fishing fool. James Jr. would drop him off at Shawnee Twin Lakes with several poles and tackle boxes in hand. Several hours later James Jr. would come back to pick him up and find that he had caught several fish! James also enjoyed the gun range, camping, watching football (particularly the Pittsburg Steelers), and basketball on tv, and of course the news (he was a “news hound”). His proudest achievements in life were his kids and grandkids.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Shirley Porter, and his brother, Glenn “Sonny” Porter Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, James Porter Jr. and fiancée, Chrisy L. Craft; son, Jason Porter and wife, Celcie; daughter, Kari Porter; grandson, Logan Porter; grandson, Keaton Porter, his four-legged companions: Sugar, Mickey, Mason, George, and Lady, along with a host of other family and good friends.
There will be no services at this time.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in James’ name to the American Cancer Society of Oklahoma, P.O. Box 22958, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
