Lendal D. "Red" Phillips

Lendal D. "Red" Phillips
January 25, 1945 ~ January 24, 2016

Lendal D. "Red" Phillips was born January 25, 1945 at Duncan, OK to Leo and Marguariete (McCartney) Phillips. He departed this life on Sunday evening, January 24, 2016 at his home northeast of Canton, OK one day short of his 71st birthday. Red had been under hospice care since June of 2015.

Red grew up in Sulphur and Ringling, OK, graduating from Ringling High School. He was a very hard working man, with most of his working years spent in a truck, both oil field hauling and over the road cross country. When he could no longer drive the big rigs, he began a pilot car business, and said if I can't drive them I can at least lead them and hopefully keep them safe. Red also was an accomplished mechanic, and maintained and repaired the school buses for the Canton Schools for many years. He operated a boat repair and welding shop in Canton for a number of years. Red married Paula Smith in March of 1985 at Gainesville, TX. He and Paula attended the First Baptist Church in Canton. He loved camping and taught many of his family members how to water ski. Red loved horses and competed in team roping in his younger years.

Red was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and one son, Matthew D. Phillips; Survivors include his wife, Paula Phillips of the home; one daughter, Wendy Gammon and husband Keith of Seiling, OK; son Alan Wooley and wife Lonnie of Marble Falls, TX; a special daughter-in-law, Ruthann Phillips of Emaus, PA; son Ronnie Phillips of Madill, OK; thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and many family and friends; Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Canton with Rev. Mike McReynolds officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, OK. Memorials may be made to the G.A.C.C. (local theater preservation group), the Canton/Longdale Ambulance service or the First Baptist Church of Canton with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK, 73724.
