Lucky Buckshot “Bucky” Phelps

Lucky Buckshot “Bucky” Phelps
August 5, 1968 ~ May 30, 2026

Lucky “Bucky” Buckshot Phelps, 57, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026, in Locust Grove, OK. He was born on August 5, 1968, in Las Cruces, NM, to Arden Vincent Phelps & Reada Mae (Casto) Lamb.

Bucky grew up around Tahlequah & Tiawah, near Inola, OK, & attended school in Inola & Tiawah. He also lived for a short time in Claremore, OK. Throughout his life, Bucky worked as a house painter, a trade he took pride in for many years. He also worked for Gary Campbell painting for six to seven years.

Bucky shared several years with the love of his life, Dana, & the couple were married approximately six months before her passing. Their time together was filled with love & companionship, & her memory remained close to his heart.

A man who truly enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, Bucky loved spending time outdoors. Fishing was one of his greatest passions, & some of his favorite places to cast a line included Ear Bob, Big Holler, Spring Creek, & the bridge area at Lake Hudson. He also enjoyed camping, playing horseshoes, trying his luck with scratch-off lottery tickets, & playing slot games on his phone. When relaxing at home, he could often be found watching classic westerns such as Gunsmoke & Rawhide. Bucky attended Full Gospel Church in Locust Grove & valued his faith.

Those who knew Bucky will remember his infectious smile, hearty laughter, & easygoing nature. He was a jokester who loved making people laugh & had a way of getting along with everyone he met. Bucky was fun-loving, carefree, & never took life too seriously. He loved his children very much & even though he didn’t see them often, he kept them close to his heart. Perhaps one of the things he will be remembered for most was his unique way of saying farewell. Instead of saying goodbye, Bucky would simply say, “Love You Later,” a phrase that perfectly reflected the warmth & affection he shared with family & friends.

Bucky is survived by: 4 children: Nicole “Nicki” Phelps, LeAnn Phelps, Tanner Phelps, & Shakota Phelps; 11 grandchildren; 3 siblings: Brenda Miller & husband Allen of Locust Grove, OK, Louise Sinor & husband Greg of Leach, OK, & David Phelps of Locust Grove, OK; 1 aunt: Annie Webster of Tahlequah, OK; Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & a host of friends. Bucky was preceded in death by: his parents; & his wife: Dana.

No services have been planned at this time. Cremation services have been entrusted to Locust Grove Funeral Home. Memories, condolences, and tributes may be shared at Locust Grove Funeral Home.
