Lawrence Wright "Larry" Peters

April 21, 1921 ~ December 29, 2008

Lawrence "Larry" Peters passed away at Dominican Hospital on December 29, 2008 with his family by his side, at the age of 87.

He was born April 21, 1921 in Grimes, Oklahoma, the son of Lawrence W. Peters, Sr. and Rosa May Peters.

He grew up in Grimes where he attended the public schools and later attended Contra Costa College in California.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Following his military service he worked for the State of California before becoming Santa Cruz County Road Superintendent. He retired from Santa Cruz County in 1982.

He was a Master Mason in Santa Cruz Lodge #38 F & A. M. and was master of the lodge in 1969. He was a member of the San Jose Scottish Rite, where he served as President of the Shrine Club in 1973 and Island Temple of the Shrine where he served as Shrine Club Greeters Secretary in 1966-1967. He was a life member of the Santa Cruz Elks #824 for 39 years and also a member of SIRS.

He is survived by his daughters, Diana Jo Peters of Soquer; and Susan Shiman of Ben Lomond; eight grandchildren, Dianese S. McLaughlin, Tamara S. Lopez, Alicia I. Lopez, and Boo M. Lopez, Jamie McGivney, Shaunaus McGivney, Brandon McGivney and Derek McGivney; nine great grandchildren; sister-in-law Vera Peters; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Peters, Jodie Peters and Ray Peters; and two sisters, Clodell Klehs and Nola Dill.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. If desired any donations in his name may be made to the San Jose Scottish Rite or the Santa Cruz Elks.

Arrangements are under the care of Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.
