Neva Belle (Wedel) Peacock

Neva Belle (Wedel) Peacock
June 16, 1932 ~ January 24, 2021

Neva Belle Peacock, of 10514 Arleta Ave Mission Hills CA, passed away on January 24th 2021, she was 88 years old. She was born on a farm in rural Alphalfa County, near Goltry, Oklahoma, on June 16th 1932 to parents Jacob & Ruth Wedel. Neva and her siblings were raised in a Mennonite tradition and it was this upbringing that instilled in her a lifelong Christian faith.

The Wedel family moved from their farm to Enid OK, in 1946. Neva attended Emerson Junior High and Enid High School. She was active in some of her high schools various clubs and she graduated from Enid High School in1950. Her first job was with the Champlain Oil Company. It was during this time that she met her future husband Keith Peacock, who was stationed at Vance Air Force Base during the Korean war. Keith was the star pitcher for the Vance baseball team and Neva and her friends would attend the games. After a courtship, the couple was married September 24th 1955 at Westside Baptist Church. Keith and Neva decided to move to California and resided in Glendale, where their first child Mark was born in 1956. Following Mark was another son Derrick, born in 1958, and followed by sister Dawn in 1959. Another son Shawn was born in 1974. The couple purchased their first home in 1959 in Mission Hills CA and that is where they raised their family.

Neva and Keith were very involved with the churches that they had attended; Calvary Baptist Church of North Hollywood and Grace Community Church in Panorama City. Neva had a deep faith in God, but more importantly, simply lived her life by the Golden Rule. It was by this creed that Neva and her husband Keith raised and set an indelible example for their children to follow in their own lives.

Neva was the rock of the family. She worked hard for most of her life as a legal secretary, always bringing in a steady paycheck. Keith, who was the dreamer of the family, did a myriad of jobs while attending various schools of higher education. Neva always supported him in his various pursuits. Like the time the couple opened The Peacock Cafe restaurant, or the horse business the family had breeding and training Arabian horses, to name just a few. Neva gave of herself totally in all of these various family businesses. She also supported Keith when he decided to go to seminary school and later become a minster for a short time. All through these various endeavors, her number one priority was always her family. The love and devotion she gave set a wonderful example of a caring mother and devoted wife.

In her younger years, Neva played woman's basketball for a church league and was an avid sports fan. She loved to watch her favorite local teams throughout her life; the Los Angeles Lakers and Dodgers. She never missed an Oklahoma Sooner football game. As an avid reader, she would read the daily newspaper, the various magazines she subscribed to, and the many books she chose to read. Neva was a legal secretary for most of her working life. She started her own independent secretarial business that she was quite proud of helping many local attorneys with needed legal secretarial work. Sometimes Neva used her best friend Linda Holly to help cover when she had too much demand for her work. The two of them made a good team for the various lawyers who needed their expertise.

Neva's husband passed in 1997 after a two year battle with cancer. Neva decided to keep working her secretarial business ultimately retiring in the mid 2000's. After retirement, Neva enjoyed traveling and doing some cross country road trips with her daughter Dawn. She also enjoyed attending her Enid High School reunions, which brought her much happiness reacquainting herself with her old friends and acquaintances. Neva was also very close to her four brothers Ed, Ray, Marvie, Rodger, and sister Deloris. Even though she lived on the west coast, she enjoyed communicating with them on a regular basis.

Active in her churches, which was her main social activity, Neva had many friends she met and were close to over her life. If any of her friends had moved away, she would always stay in touch either by telephone or by writing letters that she enjoyed composing. A kind and giving woman throughout her life, it was this wonderful quality that endeared her to her family and friends.

With the onset of dementia Neva's world slowly closed in over the last several years as she traveled less and stayed close to home more where she remained till the time of her passing on January 24th 2021.Neva is preceded in death by her husband Keith Peacock, parents Jacob Wedel, Ruth Wedel, and her brothers Edwin Wedel and Ray Wedel.

Neva is survived by her children Mark Peacock, Derrick Peacock, Dawn Peacock Ziegler, and Shawn Peacock, brothers and sister, Marvie Wedel, Roger Wedel, and Deloris Wedel Fouquet, grandchildren, Jonathan Ziegler and Heidi Ziegler, Amy Peacock, Abigail Peacock Woodford, and Michael Evan Peacock.

Because of the current Covid-19 restrictions in the Los Angeles area for multiple person gatherings a memorial service will be announced and held at a later date.
