Doris Coleen Payne
February 28, 1938 ~ January 16, 2022

A Celebration of Life Service for Doris Coleen Payne, age 83, of Enid, will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Ladusau-Evans Chapel, with Rev. Vernon Lee officiating. Burial will be in Wamego, Kansas, at the Wamego City Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Coleen was born February 28, 1938, in Junction City, KS, to Henry C. and Nellie L. (George) Payne and passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022, in St. Mary's Hospital.

Coleen went to Washington, D.C., in 1959 to work at the Pentagon as a clerical worker during the Vietnam Conflict. She lived outside Washington, D.C., when 9/11 happened, and she witnessed the plane hitting the Pentagon. She moved to Enid to live near her brothers in April 2007. She was very active in the Blue Star Mothers and Vietnam Veterans of America.

She is survived by her brothers, Lawrence Payne, Ralph Payne, both of Enid, and Paul Payne from Durant, OK, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, John, James, and Richard.
