Janie Lou (McGehee) Pate
December 16, 1940 ~ February 1, 2024

Janie Lou McGehee Pate, of Calera, Oklahoma passed away at her home on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the age of 83.

Janie was born to Winnie Ocie (Trammel) McGehee and Roy B. McGehee on December 16, 1940, in Calera, Oklahoma. She attended Calera High School and married her high school sweetheart, Donald Wayne Pate, on October 8, 1957, eloping to Odessa, Texas.

After starting a family of three children, Janie attended Childers Beauty School in Midland, Texas where she was able to pursue her passion of creating beautiful things. She was an avid gardener, gifted seamstress and excellent cook…all done in an effort to provide love for her family and friends. Janie had a passionate love for Jesus that never ended as evidence by her ability to worship Him with her children through her final days.

Janie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three siblings: Troy McGehee, Dessie Luke, and Margie Glen of Calera, Oklahoma.

Janie is survived by her son Kenneth Pate and wife Kendra of Calera, Oklahoma, son Allen Pate and wife Tina of Princeton, Texas, and daughter Melissa Pate of Calera, Oklahoma. Grandchildren include Kacie Welch, Charles Pate, Kristin Boehme, Alissa Waters, Caleb Judkins, and 7 great grandchildren, along with her brother Roy McGehee, and her sisters Willie Pennick, Lenora Bills, Martha Goza, Mary Ann Lloyd, and Judy Yarbrough.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 10:00AM, at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel with her son, Allen Pate officiating.

The family of Janie Pate wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Robert Church for his unending compassion and care for Janie, as well as the staff at Guardian Hospice who befriended her in the last five months of her life, caring for her physical needs while ministering to her spirit. Ashleigh Williams and Kim Kelley provided exceptional care as compassionate individuals with a sacred duty.
