Hildegard Halbuber was born May 4, 1932 in Czechoslovakia. She and her family, including 13 siblings, were transferred by cattle car to Germany during World War II. The next day, June 14, 1966, they were married at the courthouse. The family made their home in Fayetteville, North Carolina for a year while Harvey was sent to Thailand. Hildegard and April moved to Fairview, Oklahoma to be near Harvey's parents for a year. The couple made their home in Fairview after the Vietnam War, where Harvey lost his legs from stepping on a mine. They built a home west of Fairview where they lived the rest of their lives. Hildegard was a farm wife and homemaker.
