Cecil Clement Oekerman

Oct. 26, 1924 ~ April 5, 2003

On April 5, 2003 Cecil Clement Oekerman went home to be with his Lord. Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Midland at 7 p.m. Monday with Dr. Gary Dyer and Reverend Bob Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.

Cecil was born on Oct. 26, 1924, in Fort Cobb to Fred and Ethel Collier Oekerman. After graduating from high school in Verdon in 1942, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific Theater.

Upon return to the United States, Cecil gained employment with Halliburton Services, for which he worked for 40 years.

On March 6, 1949 Cecil married Frances Maberry in Duncan. The family subsequently lived in Oklahoma, Canada, Venezuela, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Cecil was an active member of First Baptist Church, serving in many ministries, including being a deacon. Among the other service organizations with which Cecil volunteered were the Gideons International, the Baptist Crisis Center and the Downtown Lions Club.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Glenn Oekerman and Lemoyn Oekerman.

Among those who will miss Cecil are his wife of 54 years; his sons and their wives, Mitchell and Rebecca of Abilene, Joe and Rebecca of Midland, and Patrick and Amy of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Emily Oekerman of Houston, David and wife, Robin, of Abilene, Mark Oekerman of Midland, and Ruth Ann Oekerman of Abilene. Cecil's great-granddaughter, Jinger Jade Oekerman, was born Jan. 3, 2003 Other relatives include Cecil's sister, Mrs. Irene Davis of Norman; two sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation is scheduled for 4-6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Don McSparron, Carl Trim, Dean Rippetoe, Bethel Eiland, Jim Bradshaw and Tom Lawson. Honorary pallbearers will be Percy O'Quinn, Chess McKenzie, Jerry Romine and the Midland Gideons.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Midland, PO Box 2621, Midland TX 79702 or Gideons International, PO Box 11153, Midland TX 79702.
