Betty Faye (Smart) Odom

July 23, 1936 ~ October 22, 2005

A graveside service will be conducted by Peters Funeral Home for Betty Odom on Saturday, October 29, 2005, at 11:00 a.m., at Shafter Memorial Park.

Betty was born in Star, Oklahoma to Daniel and Ruth (Wilkerson) Smart on July 23, 1936.

She married Jimmy Merle Thornton in 1953. Though the marriage didn't last, they produced four sons.

She married Jim Odom in 1987. She worked for many years as an accounting clerk, retiring from Lennar Corp. in August 2004.

She died October 22, 2005, at home with family at her side, shortly after being diagnosed with cancer.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and son, Michael Thornton.

She is survived by brother, Dan Junior Smart; and sons, David Thornton and wife, Beverly, Steven Thornton and wife, Barbara, Terry Thornton and wife, Vivian; stepchildren, Jimmy Earl, Susie, Sheri and Dennis; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
