Leslie Ray Nunn

Leslie Ray Nunn
December 31, 1947  ~  October 20, 2017

Les Nunn, 69, of Antlers, OK, passed away from this life on October 20, 2017, to go home to be with the Lord. He had lived in Antlers for the past 10 years, after moving here from Chignik, Alaska.

Les was born December 31, 1947, in Shidler, OK to Buddy Ray and Twila Aline (Shufeldt) Nunn. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served from 1965 to 1969. He met his wife, Phyllis Jean Wetter, in Washington, DC. Both were 18 years old at the time and were married at 19 in Maryland. They spent 50 years of wonderful marriage together.

Les loved his country, freedom, and the Lord. He stood up for what is right and just. He was an avid reader who proved a man could achieve anything he wanted with hard work and applying what he read. He enjoyed difficult challenges, and with his wife by his side, he was never afraid to go anywhere or try something new.

Les was a true adventurer, spending many years in Alaska, even cutting down trees to build a log cabin where he and his family lived for a time without running water or electricity. He enjoyed hunting and fishing the wilds of Alaska where he took down moose, caribou, brown bear, mountain sheep, and king salmon, to name a few.

Les was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Jackie Aline Hamilton.

Leslie is survived by his wife, Phyllis, son John Nunn; brother, Kenneth Nunn, two aunts, Patsy King and Betty Ross;step-mom Barbara Merrells, two grandchildren, Kaleb and Autumn Nunn; and a host of nieces, nephews as well as other family, and many friends.

A memorial service for Leslie Ray Nunn will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church in Antlers, OK.
