Nancy Mae (Marshall) Nibs

Nancy Mae (Marshall) Nibs
July 7, 1938 ~ April 28, 2013

Nancy Mae Marshall Nibs passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Midwest Regional Medical Center, Midwest City, Oklahoma. She was born July 7, 1938 to the late Rev. Jacob (Jake) Marshall and Nancy Tiger Marshall, in Okemah, Oklahoma.

She was an enrolled member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.

Nancy accepted Jesus as her savior at a young age. She was a charter member of Glorieta Baptist Church. During the new Sunday School year, which began this past September, she taught the Senior Women"s Small Group class. She enjoyed teaching this class and watching it grow. To date there are 18 enrolled. She not only led in Bible study but also planned field trips for her class such as going to the Chickasha light festival, eating out at restaurants including Spaghetti Warehouse and Jake"s BBQ, and last but not least was the trip to Springfield Methodist Church in Okemah for their annual "all you can eat" wild onion dinner. The senior women are close knit and Nancy was very proud to be a part of the group.

Nancy grew up and attended schools in Wetumka and Cromwell areas. She also attended grade school at Carter Seminary Indian Boarding School, junior high years were spent at Eufaula Boarding School, and high school at Chilocco Indian School.

Nancy was athletic and enjoyed playing basketball and softball; she was a star basketball player at Eufaula, and was on the intramural championship basketball team at Chilocco. She also enjoyed bowling. She eagerly looked forward to playing in the Indian tournaments and especially enjoyed playing in the State Indian Softball tournament at Wheeler Park in Oklahoma City. She loved the excitement and competition of these sports. She enjoyed watching the movie, "League of Their Own." She said it reminded her of her softball days. She was an avid OU and Thunder fan.

Nancy retired from the federal work force after many years of service. Most of her career with the federal government was with the Indian Health Service in Oklahoma City and Aberdeen, South Dakota. She also worked for the Veterans Administration in Austin, Texas and Oklahoma City, OK. For approximately two years, she was employed by the Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes in Concho, Oklahoma. She was hired Thursday, April 25th, by the Delaware Nation to work in their Oklahoma City office and was due to report on Monday, April 29th.

God had a much bigger plan for Nancy though. He called her to her heavenly home on Sunday, April 28th. She is now enjoying life to the fullest being in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and being reunited with family, friends, and other believers. Praise God! Nancy"s favorite scripture verse was Acts 13:47 "For so the Lord has commanded us "I have set you as a light to the Gentiles, that you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth." Nancy often shared her testimony of God"s love and faithfulness, and His gift of salvation in Jesus Christ.

Nancy was involved in various Indian community activities, such as the Native American Center in Oklahoma City; the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Organization in Oklahoma City; and the Tinker Inter-Tribal Pow-Wow in Midwest City. Nancy loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. There were many cook-outs, birthday parties, and also special times during the holidays. She always remembered them in prayer for their salvation, protection and guidance and encouraged them to attend church. She was happy to see them in church and rejoiced in seeing those that came to know Jesus as their Savior.

Nancy is survived by her children; daughters, Marsha Lena of OKC and Sandra Nibs of Midwest City; sons, Tim (Chebon) Nibs, Jr. of OKC and Anthony (Diddle) Nibs of OKC; sisters, Augustine Harjo of Okemah, Pauline Levi of Midwest City, Rose Marshall and Diane Factor of Cromwell, OK, Semary Ratteree of Seminole, OK; brother, Famous Marshall, Sr. of Okemah, OK; aunt, Christine Harjo of Henyetta, OK; grandchildren, Lesley Lena of El Reno, Brandon Lena and Jake Lena of Midwest City, Anthony Nibs, Jr. of OKC, Ronnie Roy of Harrah, OK, Elliott Roy, Ellington Nibs and Easton Nibs of Midwest City; and great grandchildren, Kayla, Rayleen, Jayden and Alex of El Reno, Addisyn, Talyn and Bryndon of Del City, Roman of OKC, LaNiah and Massiah of El Reno and Sade? of Tahlequah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; mother, Nancy Chupco Marshall; ex-husband Tim Nibs, Sr.; nieces, Sherry Stephenson Hill and Heavenlee Daugomah; two sisters, Wanda Wesley and Alice Roberts and one brother, Geronimo Harjo.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Glorieta Baptist Church, 7308 S. Western, Oklahoma City, OK 73139.
