Linda Lavern (Gibson) Newsom

Linda Lavern (Gibson) Newsom
June 19, 1943 ~ October 6, 2023

Linda Newsom, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2023, in Sherman, Texas. Born on June 19, 1943, in Liberty, Oklahoma, to William and Thelma (Franklin) Gibson. Linda was a godly woman who knew the Lord throughout her 80 years of life here on earth. She was a woman who smiled and would spread the words of the Lord. Anyone that knew her or came into contact with her, knew the unconditional love, warm heart and compassion that she had for all her family and loved ones.

Linda spent her working years as a seamstress for the Levi Strauss company in Denison, Texas. Her skillful hands and keen eye for detail made her a valuable asset to the company. She took great pride in her work.

Linda was a devoted member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Denison, Texas. Her faith was central to her life, and she found great joy in attending services and participating in church activities. Linda's unwavering belief and love for her church community were a testament to her deeply rooted faith and commitment to serving the Lord.

In her leisure time, Linda enjoyed reading her Bible, listening to music, sing and play dominos. She liked the thrill of finding hidden treasures at garage sales. This hobby not only brought her joy but also allowed her to connect with her community. Linda had a unique ability to find beauty and value in the most unexpected places, a trait that extended beyond her love for garage sales and into her interactions with those around her.

Linda is survived by her daughters, Brenda Newsom of Sherman, Texas, and Cheryl Jimenez and husband Macario of Denison, Texas. Her legacy lives on with her grandchildren, Amanda Jimenez, Carolina Anderson, Maria Pinal, Juanita Gomez, and Chelesea O’Neal, and her great-grandchildren, Marianna Pinal, Cristian Yanez, Yanellie Gomez, Kaleb Wilson, Alexis Wilson, Estella McGilviery, Keaton Taylor, and Jaxon Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Thelma (Franklin) Gibson, her husband, Charles Preston Newsom, her sons Charles and Gregory Newsom, her sisters, Serenia, Maria, Wynona, Norma, and her brothers Sonny, Amos, and Clayton. Her loss is deeply felt by her family, and her memory will forever be cherished.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Brett Castle officiating. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 a.m. before her service. Linda will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Denison following her funeral service.

Those serving as pallbearers are Nolan, Bubba, Jairo, Cristian, Macario, and Kaleb.
