Maredda Rose (Traynor) Nelson

Maredda Rose (Traynor) Nelson
July 01, 1938 ~ February 22, 2018

Maredda Rose Traynor Nelson, 79, of Winston-Salem, died peacefully at Hospice and Palliative CareCenter on Thursday morning February 22, 2018.

Maredda was born July 1, 1938, in Enid, to Mary and Ed Traynor. She was one of four children: Gene (deceased), Raymond, better known as Skeeter (Evelyn, deceased), and George (Jody).

After graduating from high school in Enid in 1956, she longed for a different path and entered Nursing School. Her can-do attitude and intelligence made her a natural for nursing. Maredda and Tom were married in Oklahoma City in 1962.

Maredda practiced nursing in several fields, including pediatrics, OB/GYN, and elder care. She enjoyed adventure, exploring the outdoors, quilting, photography, bird watching, gardening, and baking.

Maredda was an honorary member of the Wake Forest Medical Center Guild, and a member of the Forsyth County Quilters Guild.

Later in life, Tom and Maredda enjoyed traveling across the country in their RV. Maredda never had a disparaging comment to make about others, and she showed her family the meaning of unconditional love.

Surviving are Tom, her husband of 55 years; sons, Christopher (Denise), Nicholasville, KY; Kenneth (Dawn), Winston-Salem, NC; Carter of Seattle, WA; and her three grandchildren Kendall, Audrey, and Reece.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony is 2:00 p.m Saturday, March, 10, 2018, at Highland Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall Building (across the street from the church), 2380 Cloverdale Avenue, Winston-Salem.

Maredda's family extends heartfelt thanks to Kathy and the staff of Homestead Hills Memory Care Unit, and the staff of Hospice and Palliative CareCenter.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 100 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or Alzheimer's Association Western North Carolina Chapter.
