Lonnie Ray "Lon" Nelson
December 6, 1951 ~ October 1, 2020

Lonnie "Lon" Ray Nelson was born on December 6th, 1951, in Perry, Oklahoma and passed away on October 1st, 2020, in his home in Portland, OR. He was the son of Charles Vernon Nelson and Pauline Munger Nelson.

He graduated from Covington-Douglas High School in 1970 and Central State College (now Oklahoma Central University) with a degree in English in 1975. He was married to Carol Louise Morris on 8/16/1975 and together they had one daughter, Julia Rae Nelson Bacher. They operated a dairy farm in Lucien, OK, until 1989 when they moved to Perry, Oklahoma. Lon worked for Perry Memorial Hospital for several years as a medical transcriptionist. Lon and Carol divorced in 1990, and Lon moved to Portland, Oregon, in December 1994. He worked for Kaiser-Permanente as a medical transcriptionist from 1994 until his death.

Lon loved reading, listening to music, writing stories, collecting stamps, and most of all - playing volleyball (both sand and indoor). He also took up golf in his later years. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Lon is survived by his daughter, Julia and husband Mike Bacher of Tulsa, OK; two grandchildren, Georgia and Austin Bacher of Tulsa, OK; sister Paula and husband Rick Duncan of Oklahoma City, OK; brother Tom Nelson and wife Nancy of Douglas, OK; nephews Troy Duncan and wife Suzanne, and Nathaniel Nelson and wife Venessa; nieces Karrah and husband James Cronister, Jill Duncan, and Hannah and husband Colby O'Donnell; as well as many grand-nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Pauline Nelson and Charles Vernon Nelson.
