Joan (Gatewood) Neeley

August 15, 1930 ~ August 30, 2008

Joan Neeley, age 78, Joplin, passed away at 12:40 p.m. Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Spring River Christian Village. Joan was born August 15, 1930 in Joplin to the late Fred Gatewood and Bessie Cooper Gatewood and had lived in Joplin most of her life.

She was a long time member of First Christian Church and worked for over 10 years with the American Red Cross. Joan had also worked for Oxford Home Health Care over 10 years until her recent illness.

She married Richard D. Neeley on July 6, 1976 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He survives at the home. Additional survivors include two sons, Steve Petty and his wife, Pam, Grove, Oklahoma, Frank Petty and his wife, Susan, Joplin; one stepdaughter Sara Ann Gilpin, Joplin, three grandchildren, Steven Petty and his wife, Teresa, Joplin, Shawna Comer and her husband, Ben, Joplin, Zachary Petty, Joplin; and one sister, Joyce Doty, Riverside, California; four step-grandchildren, Richard M. Neeley, Beverly Kay Walker and husband Carl, Dustin Gilpin and Jason Gilpin.

Joan was preceded in death by an infant child and one sister, Janie Murray.

Graveside committal of the ashes will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Osborne Memorial Cemetry. Rev. Randy Depriest, will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
