John Joseph Nagy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on December 4, 2025, at the age of 71 in Durant, Oklahoma. Born on December 17, 1953, in Toledo, Ohio, John lived a life filled with love, hard work, and dedication to his family and community.
John was the son of John Edward Nagy and Mary Francis Nagy, who instilled in him the values of kindness and perseverance that he carried throughout his life. He is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Barbara Nagy, his parents, and his sister, Diana Rodriguez. John and Barbara were united in marriage in 1977 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and their bond remained strong until her recent passing.
John's life was characterized by a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. Together with Barbara, he owned and operated a successful trucking company and later founded John's Painting in Durant. His commitment to his work was matched only by his devotion to his family.
Survived by his daughters, Valorie Atkins and husband Doug of Durant, Oklahoma, and Luvenia Foskett and husband Steve of Milburn, Oklahoma, John's legacy continues through his loving children. He was a proud grandfather to Aaron Abbott and wife Amy, Ashleigh Haertling and husband Zeb, and Bryssa Atkins, who will all carry forward his spirit. John was also blessed with great-grandchildren Carson Haertling, Cayden Haertling, and Royal Abbott, who brought immense joy to his life.
John's family was not limited to his direct descendants; he is also survived by his siblings, including brothers Bob Nagy and wife Denise, Pat Nagy and wife Tracy, and Mark Nagy and wife Laura, along with sisters Debbie Swapp and JoAnn Nagy-Casey, all residing in Arizona. He leaves behind a cherished extended family and countless friends who were touched by his warmth and generosity.
In his spare time, John found joy in woodworking, especially in crafting beautiful wooden flags that symbolized his love for his country. He cherished moments spent with his family, creating memories that will last a lifetime. John's laughter, kindness, and unwavering support will be missed by everyone who had the privilege to know him.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 10:00 AM with Bro. Bruce McLaughlin officiating. Family and friends are invited to celebrate John's life and share their memories of a man who truly embodied love and strength.
