Wayne E. Myers, 82, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was born July 6, 1931, to John S. and Esther Lura Helmuth in McPherson, Kan.

He graduated from Wakita High School and attended A.M. College/OSU.

Wayne served in the Korean War from 1950-1953.

He married Mary L. Blume-Garrett on June 27, 1953, at Fairview Christian Church, Sand Creek, Okla. They celebrated 62 years together.

He was a volunteer fireman in Wakita. Served as fire chief for many years, V.F.W. and American Legion. He was well known as the to-go-to person across the country and within the community for farm equipment. Wayne was a farmer and rancher.

He adored his grandchildren. He loved his woodworking and fishing and watching wildlife. He was the last of the true blacksmiths.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Myers of the home; daughters, Susan and James Cartmill, Flower Mound, Texas, and Cindy and Tom Nocton, Lawton; sons, Philip and Cathy Myers, Yukon, and Roger and Shelley Myers, Stafford, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. today, Nov. 19, 2013, at Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek, with family present from 6-8 p.m. Memorial service is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek. Rev. Bob Smith officiating. Visitation also will be 8:30-9:30 a.m. before the service.

Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors or donor's choice.
