Gerald Edward Murlin
November 1, 1938 ~ December 29, 2021

Gerald E. Murlin, 83 year old Woodward resident, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021 in Vici. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2022 at the First Baptist Church of Woodward with Reverend Tony Barros officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Gerald Edward Murlin was born on November 1, 1938 in Vici, Oklahoma to Harry Louis and Iola Belle (Ross) Murlin. He grew up in Vici and graduated from Vici High School in 1956. Gerald was inducted into the United States Army Reserves in 1960 and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1966.

He was united in marriage to Erma Myrlene Loomis on July 22, 1961 at the First Baptist Church in Woodward. They made their home in Woodward and were blessed with three children, Stephanie, Cynthia, and Todd. Gerald worked at Young Furniture for many years before he went to work at the USDA Research Station where he continued working until his retirement in the early 2000's.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and he loved taking his family camping at Ft. Supply and Colorado. Gerald was also a Cub Scout Leader and was a member of the Woodward Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Erma Murlin of the home; two daughters, Stephanie Murlin, Cynthia Bruner and husband Darrin; one son, Todd E. Murlin and wife Teresa; six grandchildren: Joshua Hartzell and wife Carly, Shelby Hartzell, Kyla Murlin and fiance Jamie Albert, Emily Bruner, Ashley Bruner, Jenna Murlin; five great-grandchildren: Kylor Parker, Addisyn Parker, Rhealey Albert, Kaiser Hartzell, Alexandria Albert; one sister, Norma McClendon; other relatives and friends.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Iola Murlin, brother, Darrel Murlin and his wife Dorothy and brother-in-law, Earl McClendon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Pulmonary Fibrosis Research with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
