James Warren "Jim" Mote

Jim Mote, age 80 of Purcell, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2014. James Warren Mote was born August 17, 1934 in Sterling, OK, the older of 2 children born to James Porter Mote and Margaret Helen (Barbrick) Mote. He grew up in Sterling and attended Sterling Schools, graduating in 1952. Jim then attended Oklahoma A&M University where he earned Bachelor's Degree in Business.

While in college, Jim was actively recruited by Foley's Department Store and he immediately moved to Houston and began working for them upon graduation. He retired as Human Relations Director after more than 25 years of dedicated service to the company. He attended the 2nd Baptist Church in Houston where he served as a Deacon.

After retirement, Jim moved back home to Oklahoma and lived in Waurika for a time and later Oklahoma City. During this time, he stayed busy working various jobs in retail. On September 28, 1999, Jim married Leona Jacobs and they made their home in Purcell. Jim was a wonderful husband and father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was an extremely talented artist and he dabbled with some painting and bronze casting. His passion was wood carving and he especially enjoyed carving caricatures. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Purcell.

He was preceded in death by: His parents, James Porter and Margaret Mote and A niece, Aliza Newcomer.

Jim leaves behind: His wife, Leona of the home; His daughter, Andrea "J" Mote of Austin, TX; His sister, Arsann Hicks of Oklahoma City; 2 grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren, Aliza, Mary Catherine, Mariah, Eyan, Kristine and Billie; 2 step sons, Tracy Jacobs and wife Michelle of Overland Park, KS and Ryan Hinchey and wife Becky of Moore, OK and A host of other family and friends.

Private Family Services are scheduled for a later date.
