Mary Annette Moss
January 16, 1945 ~ December 14, 2022

Mary Annette Moss, 77, of Norman, OK, passed away on December 14, 2022, after living a wonderful, full, and spirited life.

“Nettie” was born on January 16, 1945, to Fred and El Wanda (Stallings) Moss in Durant, OK. After graduating Duncan High School in Duncan, OK, she went on to study music at Southeastern State University in Durant. As an undergraduate, she was awarded one of eleven scholarships at the University of Hawaii’s East/West Center. She became fluent in Japanese and subsequently lived in Japan to further her studies.

Annette married her high school sweetheart Randy Floyd, and the couple made their home in Cherry Point, NC while Randy served as Marine pilot in Vietnam. Annette spent most of her adult life in Norman, OK where she worked as a Grant and Proposal Coordinator for the University of Oklahoma. Much of the research funding and faculty support at OU was due to Annette’s hard work.

She built a successful political campaign management firm in Norman. Some of the notable campaigns she worked with included Governor George Nigh, the legalization of parimutuel horse racing and numerous mayoral, State Senate and House of Representative campaigns.

Annette loved music and was an accomplished vocalist. She was a featured entertainer at the annual Sand Bass Festival in Madill, OK. She also loved to travel to Hawaii, Santa Fe and other exotic locations.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter Shannon Floyd Miller. She is survived by her daughter Andrea DeShong, grandchildren Hana Miller, Christian Buffington, Grace and Sylvia DeShong, her sisters Karen Moss Qualls and Cheryl Moss Pierson, many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 15 from 1-3pm at Brown’s Funeral Home in Durant, OK. Honorary pallbearers are Randy Floyd, Christian Buffington, Shoney Qualls, Harrison Burris and Casey Pierson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Smile Train, (www.smiletrain.org) an organization to which Annette felt strongly about and contributed.
