Jerry D. Moss

April 11, 1939 ~ December 3, 2022

Jerry D. Moss, 83, of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, December 3, 2022 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

He was born April 11, 1939 to Calvin and Letha (Chambers) Moss in Sulphur, Oklahoma.

Jerry was raised in Sulphur and graduated with the class of 1957 from Sulphur High School.

In 1961 he joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country at Fort Carson, Colorado.

He married LaVena Riddle on April 24, 1965 in Sulphur, Oklahoma.

After serving his country he returned home and became a butcher and later bought Jerry’s Lakeside Bait Shop and Convenience Store west of Sulphur. He along with his wife, LaVena owned and operated the bait shop for 12 years and then they owned and operated KFC in Sulphur and Purcell until moving to Shawnee where they owned and operated Kountry Fried Chicken and Catfish from 1992 to 2009 until they retired.

After retirement Jerry and LaVena enjoyed fishing at Lake Eufaula and all over Canada; and traveling to Alaska, Montana and Colorado and going to the mountains.

He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Matt Duane Moss and Jerry Jeff Moss; his parents, Calvin and Letha Moss; 3 sisters, Willa Dean Farrell, Doris Ann Moss and Judy Gayle Moss; and 1 brother, James Douglas Moss.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, LaVena Moss of the home; 1 son, Mark Alan Moss of the home; siblings, Sue Woodell of Sulphur, OK, Reba Kay (Charles) White of Sulphur, OK, Allene Hilliard of Sulphur, OK, Mary (Jimmy) Husband of Yukon, OK; Marylin Douglas of Allen, OK, Patsy (William) Workman of Asher, OK and Clyde (Janice) Moss of Yukon, OK; and other extended family and friends.

Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Liberty Baptist Church, 711 E. Federal Street, Shawnee, OK with Pastor Phil Thompson, Liberty Baptist Church, officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
