Philip Lyle Moseley

Philip Lyle Moseley

Philip Lyle Moseley was born on November 5, 1946 in Douglas, Oklahoma to Jesse Lyle and Ruth V. Moseley and departed this life on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

He attended school at Douglas Public School and Enid High School graduating in 1964. He also attended school at Oklahoma State Tech in Okmulgee, Oklahoma and Louisiana State University in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Philip loved trains from the time he was a baby in the crib so he made a career of working for the railroad starting out as an agent telegrapher on the Santa Fe in Guthrie in 1966. He worked several locations on the Santa Fe and was depot agent at Hillsdale, Oklahoma as well as Oak Hill, Tipton, Chase, and Wells, Kansas. In 1968, he went to the Kansas City Southern Railroad as an operator going into train service in 1971 and retired from the railroad in 1997 on disability as a conductor working between De Queen, Arkansas and Shreveport, Louisiana.

He was also an avid railfan historian and writer having several stories of his concerning railroads published nationally.

Philip was also a very active member of the Masons and was a 32nd Degree KCCH Mason, a member of the Guthrie Scottish Rite, Knights Templar, Order of St. Andrew of Scotland as well as Sweethome Lodge No. 461 De Queen, Arkansas, Guthrie Lodge No. 35 and Albert Pike Lodge No. 162 of Guthrie. He was a tour guide for years at the Guthrie Scottish Rite Temple.

Philip was also a member of the First Christian Church in Guthrie where he served as a deacon and elder. He also taught Sunday School there.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael.

Philip is survived by his brother, Richard Moseley; his niece, Becky Conner and husband, Ronnie and great-nephews, Ashton and Chad whom were known by him as POOTER and TOOTER; his nephew, Bradley Moseley and wife Lori and great-nieces, Celsie and Abigail and great-nephew, Cale.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the First Christian Church with Reverend Ronnie Fields officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Philip’s name to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 3100 Samford Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana 71103.
