James R. "Jim" Morgan

James R. "Jim" Morgan
Aug 22, 1928 ~ Mar 2, 2014

James R. (Jim) Morgan, 85 years, went home to be with his LORD JESUS on March 2, 2014, after a long bout with cancer and leukemia. Memorial services will be at First Baptist Church, Bartlesville, on Friday, March 7, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. The family plans to have a private memorial at their family reunion at Easter in Wimberley, Texas.

Jim was married to Alma Anderson Morgan for 62 years. He was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on August 22,1928, to James Worthington and Mary Sims Morgan. He lived in Wichita Falls, Pomona, California. and graduated high school in Wichita Falls in 1946.

Jim joined the Navy and served two years in Hawaii before entering Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas in l948. He earned a BS and later a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering. At Texas Tech, Jim was active in the Baptist Student Union where he met his wife to be, Alma Ruth Anderson, whom he married in January, 1952.

Following graduation, Jim started work at the Phillips Butadiene Plant in Borger, Texas, in June 1952. During his twenty two years in Borger, Jim was active at First Baptist Church, teaching high school boys, then started the Baptist Student Union at Frank Phillips Junior College, taking students to Glorieta, New Mexico Baptist Assembly for BSU week every August, and to Campus Crusade for Christ conferences. He was elected as a trustee at FPC and at Wayland Baptist University. Jim was honored as Borger's "Man of the Year" for starting and directing the Junior Achievement program for high school students, teaching and practicing the concept of "Free Enterprise." While Jim was chairman of the deacons at FBC, Borger, he accepted the responsibility of serving as chairman of the City-wide James Robison Crusade, working with all the area-wide churches. His future son-in-law, Mike Green, became a Christian at that Crusade.

From January, 1974 to January 1977, Jim worked in Phillips Europe-Africa headquarters area, living in the Dulwich Village area of London, where he became a deacon at Chatsworth Baptist Church. He hosted and taught home Bible studies and was active with the Navigators, Campus Crusade for Christ, and Trans World Radio ministries. Transferring to Bartlesville, Oklahoma in Jan.1977, Jim worked in the Technical Systems of the Computing Department of Phillips, taking early retirement in 1985.

In Bartlesville, Jim served as a First Baptist Church deacon, Singles Sunday School teacher, and Children's Church Bible teacher. He hosted and participated in home Bible study groups and sponsored Child Evangelism Good News Clubs. He was a Gideon, participating in their goal of Bible distribution. He was a long-time volunteer at Voice of the Martyrs headquarters. Jim loved all sports and loved playing games, with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Since the four Green grandchildren were homeschooled through age twelve, Jim took each one, as they reached that age, on a month-long "history tour" from Southern and Eastern USA to Niagara Falls, Canada. All six grandchildren, three boys and three girls, from Texas, Louisiana and Scotland, have been to Bartlesville since Jim broke his hip, Feb.13th, showing their deep love and respect for their Granddad.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mary Sims Morgan.

He is survived by his wife, Alma, daughters, Jamie Morgan Green and her husband, Mike, of Brisbane, Australia, and Rue Morgan Hatfield of Rocky River Ranch in Wimberley, Texas.
