Robert D. "Bob" Mitchell
May 14, 1925 ~ March 28, 2016

A celebration of life for Robert D. "Bob" Mitchell will be Friday, April 1, 11:00 A.M. in the First United Methodist Church in Enid. The Rev. Susan Southall, Rev. Richard Hedger and Rev. Randy Mitchell will officiate. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. A family graveside service will be held Monday, April 4th 2:00 PM at Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton, KS.

Bob was born May 14, 1925 to Richie Brown Mitchell and Elsie Mae Kilgore in Liberal, KS. His early years were lived in the Oklahoma panhandle in the heart of the Dust Bowl. He graduated from Turpin High School in 1944. Following graduation he worked for Shamrock Oil Company and later for Dowdy Motor Company as the parts man for Studebaker. Bob married Lucile F. Barber, October 12, 1945 at her home in Hugoton, KS. Bob went to work for Liberal Iron and Metal and worked there for the next 33 years. Bob and Lucy owned and operated Mitchell Norge Village and Mitchell Maytag for over 20 years in Liberal, KS. Bob belonged to First Presbyterian Church in Liberal where he served as a Deacon. After retirement he enjoyed traveling and camping in their motor home. Bob and Lucy moved to Wagoner, OK in 2003 to be near family. They built a home on Ft. Gibson Lake and enjoyed fishing and new friends in First United Methodist Church until 2013 when they moved to Enid with family. They resided in The Commons, joined First United Methodist Church and recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Bob is survived by his wife, Lucy of the home; son, the Rev. Randy Mitchell and wife Helen, grandsons Michael Mitchell and wife Amber, of Oklahoma City, OK and Stephen Mitchell and wife Suzanne of Norman, OK and four great grandchildren. Additional survivors include brothers Raymon Mitchell and wife Irene of Liberal, KS, Dean Mitchell and wife Joan of Turpin, OK, sister-in laws Kathryn Barber of Hugoton, KS, Ralene Crippen and husband Terry of Lexington, OK along many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Retirement Home, “The Commons” with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as the custodian of the funds.
