Funeral service for David Meyer will be Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Kiowa United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hazelton with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Kiowa. David John Meyer was born on March 18, 1941 on the Meyer farm north of Cheney, Kansas to John George Meyer and Beatrice Bomholt Meyer. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cheney, Kansas and was a member at the time of his death.

David attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School grades 1-8. He graduated from Cheney High School in 1959. After graduation David worked for his uncle, Harold Bomholt, on the family farm until he joined the U.S. Army in 1960. He served in the Army from 1960 - 1964, achieving the rank of Sargent E5. While in the Army he served in Panama during the Panamanian Crisis.

After returning from the Army, David served on the Guard Force at Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas. It was during this time he met the love of his life, Carol Sue Clark, on a blind date. They were united in marriage on September 3, 1966 at the Kiowa United Methodist Church. David and Carol lived in Wichita for two years, David working at Cessna and Carol working at Loose’s Fabrics in Seneca Square. In 1968 they moved to the Clark-Meyer farm near Hazelton, Kansas where they spent the last 50 years engaged in farming. David served on the Moore Township Board, Rural Water Board, Church Committees and served sixteen years on the School Board at South Barber. It was during this time their two daughters were born, Sherrill and Loretta.

David was preceded in death by his parents, John and Beatrice Meyer; three brothers, Eldon, Allan and Edward Meyer.

David is survived by his wife, Carol and his two daughters, Sherrill Tokic (Dave) of Overland Park, Kansas and Loretta Meyer-Bell (Jennifer) of Wichita, Kansas; two step-granddaughters, Megan Tokic and Austin Bell; two nieces; one nephew and many friends from far and near.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran School, Heartland Home Health-Hospice or Kansas 4H Foundation-Kansas State University through the funeral home.
