Virginia  Lee "Ginger" (Smith) Meritt
July 7, 1951 ~ March 17, 2020

Ginger Meritt, 68 year old Woodward resident, died Tuesday, March 17, 2020 in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2020 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. In complying with the request of our State and Federal Government limiting public gatherings, Gingers funeral will be broadcast on Facebook Live on Billings Funeral Home Facebook page.

Virginia (Ginger) Lee (Smith) Meritt was born on July 7, 1951 in Kingman, Kansas to Walter Lee and Evelyn Fay (Compton) Smith. She attended school in Harper, Kansas and graduated from Harper High School. Ginger was united in marriage to Thomas Frederick Meritt on July 28, 1972 in Medford, Oklahoma at the Nazarene Church. They made their first home in Medford before living in El Reno and Woodward. Before Ginger attended the High Plains Vocational School and received her LPN degree, she worked at various places including, Sonic, the Harper Advocate, and various waitress jobs. She worked as a LPN at Colonial Manor, Western State in Fort Supply, and the Lighthouse.

She enjoyed garage sales, shopping, sports, especially wrestling, and reading but most of all she loved her kids and grandkids and being with them. Some of Gingers favorite times were spent with her family.

Survivors include her husband Tom Meritt of the home; two sons: Tommy Meritt and wife Cathy of Woodward, Travis Meritt and wife Tanya of Woodward; one daughter, Skyla Potts and husband Mike of Yukon; brothers: Jan Smith and wife Joan of Norwich, Kansas, Hobie Smith and wife Wanda of Harper, Kansas, Chris Smith and wife Dana of Harper, Kansas, Kenny Smith of Anthony, Kansas; one sister Jeanie Guest and husband Sammy of Olive Branch, Mississippi; eight grandchildren: Jordan, Brenna, Cole, Seth, Tobi, Adalynn, and Barrett; great-grandchildren, Sophia; and a baby boy on the way; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Evelyn Smith.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Myeloma research with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
