Jo Ann (Shannon) Melton

February 13, 1944 ~ May 13, 2017

Jo Ann Melton of McAlester died Saturday, May 13, 2017 at her home at the age of 73.

Jo Ann was born February 13, 1944 in Pittsburg, OK to Todd and Geneva (Packe) Shannon. She graduated from Pittsburg High School with the Class of 1962. On November 20, 1964, Jo Ann married Foster Coy Melton. Jo Ann was retired from The Bank NA.

She loved singing and playing gospel music on the piano. She loved the Lord and was faithful to tell others about Him. She was a true inspiration to those who were privileged to know her. She always knew what to say or do to bring comfort, encouragement and hope. We were all blessed to have known her.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Foster Melton of the home; daughter, Tracy Breland and husband, Bill of Wiggins, MS; sisters, Jerri Oliver of Destin, FL, Betty Williams of Pittsburg and Lena Enloe and husband, Sam of Bray; Grandchildren, Dustin Breland and wife, Donna of Danville, VA, Bethany Breland and Kristen Breland both of Wiggins, MS; Great Grandchildren, Landon and Kylie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Todd and Geneva Shannon; and her mamaw, Clemence Walkup.

The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and especially her nurse, Rebecca Johnson and aide, Jennie Bierman.

A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Pittsburg First Baptist Church.
