Shigeko Angela Meece

Shigeko Angela Meece
April 17, 1929 ~ November 20, 2019

Shigeko Angela Meece, age 90, of Lawton passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2019.

Shigeko was born in Tokyo, Japan on April 17, 1929. She was abandoned by her birth mother and was adopted by Tatsu Koto, who raised her as her own. She was living in Japan during WWII and during the war, saw her family go from very wealthy to very poor. After the war, she helped her mom run a laundry. In 1956, Shigeko met and married Eugene Meece and they would spend the next sixty-three years together. They came to Lawton on September 2, 1958 and she became a United States citizen in 1963. She loved the United States and Lawton but not as much as she loved her animals.

Shigelo is survived by her husband, Eugene Meece of Lawton; three relatives in Japan and two in Illinois.
