Violet R. (Wiseman) Means

Jan 31, 1922 ~ Sep 27, 2008

On Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, Violet R. Means entered the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born Jan. 31, 1922, in Lakeview to Ace and Roberta Wiseman. She married John L. Means in Ada in 1940.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband John and brothers Ace Jr., Melvin and Buford Wiseman.

Those surviving include her son, Dr. Bob Means and wife Sandy, Hot Springs, Ark.; daughter Jan Anderson, San Antonio; sisters Ellen Ham, Grove, and Helen Thomas, Orlando, Fla.; brother Delter Wiseman and wife Treva; grandsons Stuart Means and Scott Means and wife, Nan, all of Hot Springs, Ark., and granddaughter Tammy Gray and husband Tom, San Antonio. Mrs. Means has three great grandchildren: Luke and Alexis Gray, San Antonio and Chris Branham, Hot Springs.

Mrs. Means was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Ada, for many years and, after retirement, the First Baptist Church of Kingston. John and Violet were managers of the East Central State University Student Union in Ada, from its opening until retirement 25 years later.

She was friend and helper to many, a great cook, a talented craftswoman, church hostess and volunteer, and beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, Nana and Granny Great. Private burial services will be held in Kingston at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Village, Madill, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
