Jettie Mae (Chesser) McKimmey

Jettie Mae (Chesser) McKimmey
December 4, 1938 ~ December 4, 2022

Jettie was born Jettie Mae Chesser to John Henry Chesser and Georgia Chesser on December 4, 1938 in Dry Prong, Louisiana. She was reunited with the Lord on her 84th birthday, December 4, 2022. In between she met Joe McKimmey at age 14 and worked with him at Top Hat Drive In. He was 15.

They rode the school bus together to Shawnee Junior High School until he was old enough to get a driver’s license. For the same reason, after work, Joe walked her six blocks to home each night.

After he got his license they were a steady couple in his yellow 49’ Studebaker. Since she was a working girl she usually helped with the gas.

Because her dad was a Pentecostal preacher, they drove it to a lot of tent meetings.

Sometime during high school they made an unspoken agreement that they would spend their lives together. On July 18, 1956, after she graduated Shawnee High School, she and Joe got married and she became Jettie Mae McKimmey. She kept her part of the bargain for 66 years 4 months and 16 days when the Lord reminded us she was only on loan and called her home.

Her greatest accomplishments- three children, Catherine Lee McKimmey-MacGregor, Steven Joseph McKimmey and Jeffrey McKimmey, and being a great wife and mother.

Her favorite pastimes- the church, gardening, and cruises

Her parents and Jeffrey, predeceased her.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph E. McKimmey; two children, Catherine Lee McKimmey-MacGregor and Steven Joseph McKimmey; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one brother, Floyd Chesser; all of whom miss her dearly.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 12, 2022 at the First Church of the Nazarene, Shawnee, OK. In lieu of flowers, please support your favorite place of worship.

She may be visited at Walker Funeral Service, Shawnee, Oklahoma.
