Vonda Lea (Koger) McGavran

Vonda Lea (Koger) McGavran
February 14, 1938 ~ September 6, 2022

Vonda Lea Koger was born on Valentine’s Day 1938, in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Ivan and Vilora Koger (Driesel). She was one of four children - three of them feisty daughters!

Her eyes and her smile were her most distinguishing features and she was generous enough to share this trait with her daughters Terry Sue and Tammy. Vonda lived a big and vibrant life, one which was dedicated to family and friends.

She loved to camp, to fish and to cook. Her gardens and her great skill in the kitchen were relished by all. She was a fun-loving person who sponsored world famous Memorial Day family events involving great food and tortoise races. Only the threat of salmonella put an end to the races and spared future generations of tortoises from rhinestones and a glue gun.

Vonda’s favorite holiday was Halloween, and she was known for her Halloween parties. She had a ghoulish sense of humor and a devilish laugh.

She supported her sisters and their dreams and one of her proudest moments was when her sister Lavonna Rose Koger was inducted into the Cowgirl Hall of Fame in 2021.

Vonda was married to Walter Laymon and from this union four children were born: Terry Sue, Tamara Lea (Jim), Forman (Bud) Leon and Jay T. (Reyna Mae). Vonda is survived by their four children, grandchildren: Shawn, Mandy, Cody, Sage, Lacy, Kally, Bailey, Grady, Shayney and Montanna, and seventeen great grandchildren.

Vonda was married to Richard McGavran later in life and he preceded her in death. Vonda had several nieces and nephews and enjoyed her daily visits with Jeff and Casey Tucker.

She is survived by her children, brother Ivan Jr, and sisters Shorty and Bobbie. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Shirley and sister in law Bonnie.
