Marcus Nelson McElroy
March 5, 1937 ~ March 6, 2009

Marcus Nelson McElroy, 72, retired Phillips Petroleum Company, died March 6, 2009 in Bartlesville.

Mark McElroy was born in Chickasha Oklahoma on March 5, 1937 to Helen Hilsmeyer McElroy and Clarence McElroy. He graduated from Chickasha High School in 1955, and attended the University of Oklahoma where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Geology in 1959, followed by his Masters degree in 1961. He received his PhD in Geology from the University of Kansas in 1965, following which he worked in the petroleum industry for thirty-two years. He joined Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville in 1975. He worked for Phillips in both Bartlesville and Houston until his retirement in 1997.

He married his wife Mary Hendricks [Dugan] McElroy in June of 1961, with whom he spent forty-nine happy years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife Dugan, of the home, his son David of Wimbledon, England, his son Ross and daughter-in-law Renee, and one grandson, Reid, of Roanoke Texas. He is also survived by his brother David F. McElroy and wife Martha, of Longview Texas, and two nieces Tricia McElroy of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Anne McElroy of Nashville, Tennessee, and one great niece, Niamh McNaughton.

A memorial celebration will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, in the Colonial Chapel of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home with Chaplin Ron Stone of Carter Hospice officiating. Services are under the direction of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home.
