Orvis L. McDermed

Nov 15, 1938 ~ Nov 30, 2012

Orvis L. McDermed was born Nov. 15, 1938, in Alva, the son of Orville A. and Gladys McDermed, and passed away on Friday, Nov. 30, in Houston, Texas. He was 74.

He graduated from Alva High School in 1956, attended Northwestern State College in Alva for two years and graduated with a Master's Degree in Nuclear Physics from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

He married Donna Gingrich of Alva, in 1961 and moved to San Diego, Calif., where he worked as an Aerospace engineer for General Dynamics and later relocated with General Dynamics to Fort Worth, Texas, before moving to Houston, where he worked as a computer programmer for the Olivetti Corporation.

In 1989 he married Melba Goldman of Houston.

Orvis was an active board member of Northwest Assistance Ministries and enjoyed participating in Bridge Tournaments and other activities at their Fifty Plus Senior Center.

Orvis is survived by a son Curtis A. McDermed of Houston, brother, Dr. John D. McDermed of Chiang Mai, Thailand, and adopted children Maria and Marcial McDermed of New York City and Los Angeles, Calif..

Orvis was preceded in death by an infant son Dennis Ray McDermed.

At his request Orvis was cremated.
