Twyla Amelia (Schmitz) McCoy

December 6, 1920 ~ March 31, 2010

Twyla Amelia McCoy, 89, of Midwest City, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010 in her garden.

She was born December 6, 1920 in Mascoutah, Illinois to Nicolas and Mary (Blake) Schmitz. Twyla grew up in Illinois and even attended the Chicago Conservatory of Music studying and playing the violin.

Twyla met her sweetheart, Boyd F. McCoy, in St. Louis, Missouri where he was entering a career in the United States Armed Forces. Boyd's service led he and Twyla to various destinations including Germany where they adopted their son, Michael. The Air Force would eventually bring the McCoy family to Midwest City where they established their home.

Twyla's main occupation here was to care for her husband and raise their son. She was very supportive as military officer's wife. Since the untimely death of her husband, Twyla has remained active and connected to the WW II Glider Pilots Association and the (MOAA) Military Officer's Association of America.

Twyla was a reserved and private individual. These qualities drew others to befriend, cherish enjoy Twyla's camaraderie. Twyla too treasured quality relationships with her friends and neighbors: the Strahorn's, Castleberry's and Ovis Hemmer.

Twyla was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, Boyd and a sister, Thelma.

She leaves behind to tend to her garden: her son, Michael; and Amelia 'Sam' Wolf of Lebanon, Illinois, whom she regarded as a sister.
