Larry Sherman McCoy

Larry Sherman McCoy
August 16, 1943 ~ April 11, 2026

Larry Sherman McCoy, 82, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday April 11, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and quiet strength.

Larry was born on August 16, 1943, in Commerce, Oklahoma. He attended Commerce High School, graduating in 1961, and he formed lifelong friendships that spanned over 68 years. Together, they became known as “The Commerce Five,” a bond that remained strong throughout his life.

Larry continued his education at Northeastern Oklahoma University, where he played football for two years before transferring to Oklahoma State University. He earned his degree in education in 1965.

It was during his college years that Larry met the love of his life, Barbara Dayna Sue McCoy, at the Baptist Student Union. They were married on June 4, 1966, at Village Church in Oklahoma City.

Larry and Dayna made their home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Larry began his career as a draftsman at Phillips 66, where he worked for 20 years. He also proudly served his country in the Army Reserve beginning in 1967. He went on to work for Raytheon for 10 years before finding his true calling as a watch repairman at McCoy Jewelers, where he worked for the remainder of his life. Larry and Dayna shared 59 wonderful years together.

Larry had a deep passion for coaching and spent nearly 30 years with the Blazer Softball organization. Through coaching, he impacted countless young athletes, instilling in them pride, honesty, and a true love for the game. His influence extended far beyond the field.

A devoted sports fan, Larry rarely missed a St. Louis Cardinals game. He was also a longtime Dallas Cowboys fan and, in later years, became an enthusiastic supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Dayna Sue McCoy; his son, Matthew David McCoy, and daughter-in-law, Laurie Ann McCoy; his daughter, Krista Kay Grinstead, and son-in-law, Silas Carl Grinstead IV; his grandchildren, Silas Carl Grinstead V and spouse Emily Grinstead, Daegan Wren McCoy, Samuel Grinstead, Dylan Mikel McCoy, and Kadrianna Samantha Grinstead; his great-granddaughter, Lyla May Grinstead; and brother-in-law, Leonard Bachman.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack McCoy; his mother, Doretha McCoy; his sister, Linda Bachman; and niece, Christina Bachman.

Larry will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, respected coach, and a man of quiet wisdom with a gentle smile that said everything without needing words. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to Eldercare of Bartlesville and Hopestone cancer support center of Bartlesville.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at City Church in Bartlesville. Arrangements are under the direction of Carter Davis and Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel, 4201 Nowata Rd., Bartlesville, OK 7006, 918-333-7665.
