David McCoy
April 3, 1947 ~ Aug. 12, 2016

The service celebrating the life of David McCoy, 69, Ringwood, is 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, in Briggs Auditorium, Enid, with Pastor James Wall officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy. A Masonic service will be conducted by Mason Lodge 501. Complete cremation care and service is under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

David was born April 3, 1947, to Curtis and Jayne Johnson McCoy in Ada, and passed from this life Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, at his home, surrounded by family. He was raised and educated in Enid, graduating from Enid High School in 1965. He married Nancy Kay Barns, and from this union came two daughters. He then joined the Navy and served with Marines 3rd Battalion as a navel corpsman, receiving three Purple Hearts in the Vietnam conflict. He received an honorable medical retirement.

He returned to Oklahoma where he attended college in Alva, and later transferred to Philips University, where he graduated with a degree in business. He worked at his family's shoe store, Johnson Shoes, and then for Graves trucking. He then went to work for the Employment Security Commission as the senior local veterans employment representative for 10 years. He married his beloved wife, Shirley, April 7, 1991, in the small western village of Taylorsville, and became the father of three more daughters. He then became director of the Family Support Center at Vance Air Force Base until his retirement. He was instrumental in bringing the first traveling Vietnam Wall to Vance Air Force Base and assisted in bringing the permanent display to Woodring Airport. He dedicated his life to helping his fellow veterans in all aspects, never leaving a brother behind.

His passion for music was woven throughout his life. He was a talented bass guitarist. He was always in a band from high school on, and preformed throughout the United States. He owned and operated his own sound business, Springwater Sound, and provided the sound for countless events. He ran the sound and helped with the recitals for Lana's School of Dance for over 40 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner clown. He was in every Simpsons movie. He was a state mediator and was the president of the board of the Oklahoma Juvenile Detention Board. To the end, he was a true Viking.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; daughters, Mindy Smith and husband, Deon; Katie McCoy; Tammy Wilson and husband, Marty; Amanda Kerr and husband, Justin; and Mellissa LeGrand; grandchildren, Bailey, Maddison, Peyton, Wyatt, Corbin, Chole, Addison, Trinity, Drake and Tristin; brother, Tim and wife, Mary; sister, Jeanne Huitt and husband, Sam; and numerous children who considered him a father.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital, American Legion Argonne Post #4, or the Ringwood Wesleyan Church, with Brown-Cummings Serving as custodians of the funds.

Condolences may be made to the family online at www.Brown-Cummings.com.
