Greer McCleskey
February 9, 1924 ~ July 21, 2013

Greer McCleskey passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013. 

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013 at the First Christian Church, 6th & Osage with Dr. Bill Inglish officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker-Brown Funeral Home. 

Greer was born February 9, 1924 in Lockney, TX in Floyd County, the son of David Monroe "Roe" and Bonnie Dell (Greer) McCleskey. He moved to Floydada, TX with his family where he was reared and received his education. He graduated from Floydada High School in 1941. He continued his education at Texas Technological College completing requirements for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering in October, 1944.

He and the former Anna "Ann" Martha Cates were married November 6, 1943 in Amarillo, TX. Mr. McCleskey was an employee of Phillips Petroleum Company beginning in October 1944 at Phillips Borger Refinery. The McCleskey family moved to Bartlesville, OK in 1950. He continued his employment with Phillips Petroleum Company until retiring in October, 1985. His career with Phillips included many interesting and challenging assignments - his final assignment was Manager of Operations Research in the Computing Department. Mr. and Mrs. McCleskey continued to live in Bartlesville after retirement. Greer was a Registered Professional Engineer in Oklahoma and had been a member of the Bartlesville Jaycees, Downtown Kiwanis Club, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Chemical Society (emeritus), The Institute of Management Science and Operations Research Society of America.

Greer was an active member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Bartlesville. He has served as Deacon, Elder, Trustee and on various Committees and Divisions of the Church. Greer was active in Churches United For Concern and delivered Meals On Wheels for the First Presbyterian Church. He had been an active supporter of the Phillips 66 Splash Club; Little League and Pony-Colt League Baseball. He served as president of Pony-Colt League Baseball one year. Greer was an ardent golfer and a member of Hillcrest Country Club. He had served as president of Hillcrest Men's Gold Association. He had been a member of the Senior Golf Association of American and played in several golf tournaments across the United States. 

Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Ann (Cates) McCleskey, one son, Sidney Greer McCleskey and his wife Kathleen Louise (Kasey) of Flower Mound, TX; one daughter, Suzanne McCleskey of Bartlesville, OK; one sister, Bonnie Roe George of Lubbock, TX; two grandchildren, Matthew Greer McCleskey and his wife Lori of Rogers, AR; Lindsay Ann Wofford and husband Billy Alan Wofford of Dallas, TX. Several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Christian Church Endowment Trust, PO Box 1177, Bartlesville, OK 74005. Greer McCleskey donated his body to The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center "WILLED BODY PROGRAM".
