David Carl McCammon

David Carl McCammon
October 14, 1962 ~ May 14, 2021

Coach, Umpire, Referee, English Teacher, and Friend, David Carl McCammon, passed away on May 14, 2021 at the age of 58 after a courageous battle with diabetes and heart issues.

He was born on October 14 1962 to Don and Brenda McCammon. David grew up in Midwest City and attended Westside Elementary and Eastside Elementary, Jarman Jr. High, and Midwest City High School. He graduated in 1980 and has always bled “BLACK AND GOLD.” (Once a Bomber always a Bomber) He was a member of the Church of God in Midwest City.

David received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Western Kentucky University-Owensboro Campus. David’s pride was in his school, and students. He showed his passion for learning with thousands of kids over his 9 years of teaching and 30 plus years of coaching. David loved the simplest pleasures in life. He loved sharing his knowledge of baseball trivia with anyone who would listen to him. David also loved to cook. Pizza, Cinnamon rolls, and Carmel were some of his specialties.

David loved the outdoors and for many years he worked at Warrens Nursery. He had a wealth of information when it came to flowers and plants. After a full day of working he would then volunteer his time coaching football and wrestling. He spent countless hours helping at Midwest City High School, Star Spencer, and Bethel Christian Academy. He also worked at Hibdon Tire and Goodyear Tire after Warren’s closed. In 2002 David up and moved to Kentucky. He found work at the local Walmart and Umpired while putting himself through college. He coached at Burns Middle School and McLean County High School, Cimarron Middle School (Edmond), and Kerr Middle School (Del City). His love for sports and his love for all the kids he coached is something we will all remember.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Brenda; sister, Doreen; and brother, Don.

David is survived by aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him dearly as well as his dog, Sadie Mae, who he loved with all his heart. His very good friend, Andy Collier, who was David’s Principal at Kerr Middle School and his caregiver for the last 9 months. Others who have survived David are his friend Dawn Witt, whom he loved and adored and was by his side when he passed; Trish Wright Gaiski, who helped David and took such good care of Sadie Mae for him; other friends, Marsha Collier; Ricky and Leslie Oliver who helped support him through his fight over the last 9 months; Jacy Stanley English and Richie Stanley whom he was extremely proud of the fact he helped raise and support them in Middle School and High School. He would often tell us they were his greatest accomplishments. He bragged on them endlessly.

A Memorial Service will be held at “The Rock House,” 5771 E Reno, Midwest City, Oklahoma at 5:00 PM on Monday May 24, 2021 as David would have wanted, casual dress is highly recommended.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Fresenius Kidney Care, 13901 McAuley Blvd, Ste. 102, Oklahoma City, OK 73134.
