Mary Jane (Holser) Stairs McBrayer

May 14, 1919 ~ Aug. 23, 2012

Visitation with family will be from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. today (Thursday,) Aug. 30, 2012, at Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. in Kiowa, Kan. for Mary Jane "Janie" Stairs/McBrayer. Committal service will follow at Riverview Cemetery. www.lanmanmemorials.com

Janie was born May 14, 1919, in Medicine Lodge, Kan. to John Holser and Eulalia Luallen Holser and passed from this life Aug. 23, 2012, in Enid.

She graduated from Medicine Lodge High School. She married J.H. �Hobe� Stairs in 1944 in Kiowa, Kan. He was the owner of Stairs Credit Jewelers in Kiowa. Hobe and Ernie Fischer established a furniture store in 1944. Janie loved working at both businesses when she wasn�t home sewing. She spent several hours traveling with the Jewelers� basketball team, which was sponsored by Hobe and Ernie.

After Hobe passed away in 1968, she later married C.D. �Mac� McBrayer in 1972. They spent time traveling and established a vacation home in Colorado, where family and friends gathered. She loved her extended family and time spent on the porch over Labor Day weekend.

Janie worked as a secretary for Fraizer-Henry Insurance for several years before retiring.

She loved quilting at the Kiowa Senior Citizen�s Center and helped Carol at the Fabric Store when she needed her. She was a lifelong Barber County resident and after Mac passed in 1995

Janie moved to Cherokee in 2004. Her residence since Feb. 11, 2011, has been Cherokee Manor.

She was a member of Kiowa Congregational Church. After Janie moved to Cherokee, she changed her church membership to the Cherokee United Methodist Church.

Survivors include children, Judy Allison and husband, Ron of Cherokee, Marilyn Perkins and husband, Charles of Lewisville, Texas, Kent McBrayer and wife, Judy of Illinois/Kiowa and Craig McBrayer and wife, Renee of Muskegon, Mich.; grandchildren, Rod Jantz and wife, Stephanie, T.J. Allison and wife, Nicole, Brandi Crenshaw and husband, Aaron, Donelle DeWitt, Kevin Allison and wife, Angela, Marilee Ashby, Craig Perkins and wife, Lori, Chad McBrayer and wife, Ilva, Shanin Russell and husband, John, Sam McBrayer and wife, Mollie, Tessa, Kirk and Jeff McBrayer; great-grandchildren, Michael Woodard and wife, Brandy, Cassandra Woodard, Justin Woodard, Tate, Talyn and Tanis Allison, Devin and Morgan Crenshaw, Grant and Cole DeWitt, Dylan and Adrienne Allison, Amber Sharp and husband, Brandon, Addie, Carson, Brady, and Davis Perkins, Charlotte and Dylan McBrayer, Claire and Evan Russell; one great-great-grandchild, Bennett Sharp; and special friends, Carol Sue Meyer and Peggy Mason.

Those who preceded Janie in death include both husbands; an infant twin daughter; brother, Jack Holser and sister, Tommie Arbsland.

Memorials may be given to Kiowa Senior Citizens or Cherokee Manor Activity Fund through the funeral home.
