Gregg Allen McAnally was born April 2, 1965, in Enid to Richard McAnally and the late Nancy McAnally-Davis. He passed from this life on January 18, 2024 at the age of 58. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Davis, and his mother-in-law, Joan Reichard.
Gregg was a 1983 graduate of Marietta High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served in the Persian Gulf War and Desert Storm. After completing Navy Bootcamp and Operations Specialist "A" School in 1984, Gregg reported to the USS Gridley (CG-21) in San Diego. While onboard Gridley, Gregg completed his first Western Pacific deployment, received the Sea Service ribbon, and earned the title of Shellback by crossing the equator. He departed Gridley in July 1986 to attend Antisubmarine Air Controller (ASTAC) School at Point Loma, California. Upon graduation, Gregg remained on sea duty to commission the USS Kauffman (FFG-59) in Bath, Maine in February 1987. He served as Division LPO, CIC Watch Officer and in-Port Officer of the Deck. In 1989, he completed his first deployment to the Mediterranean. During the deployment, he earned his second Sea Service ribbon and made a historic visit to Sevastopol, Russia. He remained on the Kauffman through November 1991. Following back-to-back sea tours, Gregg reported to the Navy Space Surveillance Systems Command (NAVSPASUR) in Dahlgren, Virginia in December 1991. He was an operator of the AN/FPS-133 Air Force Space Surveillance System, colloquially known as the Space Fence, a U.S. government multistatic radar system built to detect orbital objects passing over America. In April 1995 Gregg reported to the USS Monterey (CG-61) in Mayport, Florida. This would end up being his final duty station due to an injury he sustained and was no longer able to serve on sea duty. Gregg was transferred to Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility (FACSFAC) in Jacksonville, Florida. He remained at FACSFAC Jax until his discharge in April 1996. Gregg selflessly served his country for 13 years. He was honorably discharged as an Operation Specialist first class April 1996. Gregg earned many military awards and decorations including: Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (3), Navy "E" Ribbon (2), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct (3), National Defense Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (3), and Navy Unit Commendation.
Once leaving the Navy, Gregg went into an apprenticeship program for HVAC from the Northeast Florida Builders Association, where he later returned to be an instructor. He received his journeyman and contractor's license in HVAC. He served as Vice President of AC Designs in Saint Augustine, Florida from 2005-2021. As of his passing, he was the Project Manager at Gibson's Heating and Air Conditioning. During his career, he mentioned many of the new generation of HVAC personnel, many of whom grew up from the kids he trained in class to running their own successful companies. He left a lasting legacy of excellence and service in the field of HVAC in the Florida community.
Gregg was compassionate and generous and treated you like family. He was also known to have a mischievous side to his personality, never shied away from a good debate about politics or the government, and had strong opinions. A true patriot who loved his country.
In his spare time, Gregg spent many hours in the outdoors and could be found on his fishing boat or on the golf course. He loved cheering on the Oklahoma State Cowboys college football team and the New Orleans Saints NFL team.
In 2011, he married Cristina. For 13 years they shared their time, working, traveling, and building a life together.
Those left to cherish Gregg's memory are his wife, Cristina; sons, Joshua Colin and Christian Jacob (Britni) and daughter Bronwyn Nichole; father and stepmother, Richard McAnally (Sue Ann); stepfather, Charles Davis; sisters, Pamela Barrett (Faron) and Becky Graves (Chad); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Honoring his generous wish as an organ and tissue donor, his gifts have restored life's promise to several families.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and benefited from his wisdom and friendship.
The family is requesting in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the freefunder.com memorial established by Gibson's Heating and Air Conditioning - In loving memory of Gregg, to offset medical expenses incurred by the family.
