Karen Anne (McCauley) Mayfield

Karen Anne (McCauley) Mayfield
March 19, 1945 ~ August 9, 2023

It is with profound sadness, that we share with you the passing of our cherished mother, Karen Anne (McCauley) Mayfield on August 9, 2023. Mom had been undergoing chemotherapy for lung cancer at the time of her death. Although, she will be deeply mourned we know there was a great celebration in heaven when she joined our loved ones who have gone on before us.

Karen Anne McCauley was born March 19, 1945 at the McCauley Family homestead, south of Barnsdall to George Washington and Eva Marie (Lytle) McCauley. She was the oldest of 5 children born to George and Eva: Karen, Frank, David, Johnny, & Jimmy. Karen was raised and received her education in Barnsdall Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1963. She married Olen Edward (Eddie) Mayfield in May 1969 and together they raised four girls: Cheryl Anne, Sheri Dawn, Pamela Rene, and Lori Jean. Karen was a nurse for Dr. James Priest at the Pawhuska Clinic until her retirement and helped Eddie run the family ranch. A couple of years after retirement she returned to nursing and was Dr. Ben Baker’s scrub nurse. After the girls were grown Karen and Eddie divorced. In her later years, Karen met Edwin Leroy (Ed) Rhodes. They shared a life together over 20 years until his passing November 16, 2020.

Karen attended the Freewill Baptist Church as her health allowed. She enjoyed her church family and one of her greatest joys was holding her youngest grandson Clinton during the church service. She also delighted in watching the little children of the church as they went around collecting changes for their penny drive. She loved God’s little children! Our mom had a huge heart and love for all of us and her door was always open to anyone in need. She will be remembered for the love she had for her family. She never got off the phone with you until she told you she “loved you”!

Karen is survived by her four daughters: Mrs. Cheryl (Richard) Herard, Barnsdall; Mrs. Sheri (Tommy) Switzner, Barnsdall; Mrs. Pam (Boop) Williams, Skiatook; and Mrs. Lori (Ryan) Howle, Barnsdall. Her youngest brother, Mr. Jimmy (Debbie) McCauley, Barnsdall; Beloved Mother-in-law Mrs. Rose Rhodes, Collinsville; sisters-in-law Mrs. Frank (Kim) McCauley, Barnsdall and Mrs. David (Rhonda) McCauley, Bartlesville. Brothers-in-law Mr. Jack Wilcox, Bartlesville and Mr. Roger (Paula) Rhodes, Collinsville. Grandchildren: Mr. Tyler (Beth) Mayfield, Barnsdall; Mrs. Crystal (Stephen) Edwards, Wynona; Mrs. Jessica (Jim) Strickland, Skiatook; Mrs. Jessica (Brandon) Eckert, Bartlesville; Ms. Ashley Riley, Bellingham, WA; Mr. Jacoty (Brittany) Holt, Skiatook; Mrs. Ashten (Jeremy) Tibbles, Skiatook; Mr. Derrick Herard (Pawhuska): Ms. Cayden Gary, Tulsa; Mr. Colby Gary (Tulsa); Mrs. Peggy Lynn Carson; Miss Georgia Scharnhorst, Barnsdall; Mr. Clinton Howle, Barnsdall.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents George Washington and Eva Marie McCauley, parents-in-law James William (Willie) and E. Mildred (Jones) Mayfield, by her three brothers: Frank, David, and Johnny McCauley; father of her girls O. E. (Eddie) Mayfield, life partner Edwin (Ed) Rhodes, sister-in-law Freeda Mae (Mayfield) Wilcox, granddaughter Bailey Marie Mayfield.

Celebration of Life Services will be held 12:30 PM Monday, August 14, 2023 at Barnsdall Freewill Baptist Church, Barnsdall, OK with Mr. Rick Loggins officiating. During the services we will have a segment for family and friends to share their special memories of our mom.
