Janis Lynn (Story) Mayberry
October 6, 1950 ~ September 25, 2019

Janis Lynn Mayberry was born on October 6, 1950 in Wynnewood, OK to Luther C. and Thelma Story and passed from this life on September 25, 2019 in Pauls Valley. OK at the age of 68.

Janis attended Pauls Valley schools and was a proud member of the marching band as well as head baton twirler. She graduated in 1968 and married James Mayberry on July 31, 1970. Janis attended Oklahoma State University, graduating with her Bachelor’s degree in 1972. She continued her education at East Central University, attaining her Master’s degree in 1976. She taught school for 45 years, most of them at Purcell Elementary as a reading specialist. She retired in 2017 from Whitebead School.

Jan had a love for crafting and could make anything she set her mind to. She spent years traveling to craft shows with her handmade Christmas ornaments and wood working projects. She also loved to sew and quilt.

Jan leaves behind her husband of 49 years, James Mayberry, of Pauls Valley. She also leaves one daughter, Jeanette Naugle and her husband Terry of Mill Creek, OK and one son, James Ryan Mayberry and his wife Misty of Oklahoma City, Ok. She was also blessed with 10 grandchildren, two bonus grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She is also survived by two brothers, Larry Story and his wife Connie of Double Oak, TX and Keith Story and his wife Janet, of Yukon, OK as well as her sister-in-law, Susan Adkison and her husband Don, of Tulsa, OK and her brother-in-law Scott Mayberry and his wife Kris of Drummond, Ok and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther C. and Thelma Story, one brother, Robert Bentley, and her niece, Amber Story.

Memorial services will be held Monday, September 30, 2019 at 10:00 am at First United Methodist Church officiated by Pastor Diane Pruitt and Pastor Kristi Mayberry. Services for cremation are under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
