Loretta Lucille "Lora Lu" (McWilliams) May

Loretta Lucille "Lora Lu" McWilliams May, 85, passed away on June 8, 2018 in Edmond, Oklahoma. Lora Lu was born October 29, 1932 in Orleans, Nebraska to Lucile Irene Oswald and Darrell Joyce. Lora's mother Lucile married David (Dave) Newton McWilliams on September 16, 1936. Dave adored Lora Lu and adopted her at age four and was a doting father and grandfather until his death in 1986.

Lora attended and graduated valedictorian of her class from Benedictine Heights Girls Boarding School in Guthrie, Oklahoma. She continued with her education in nursing receiving her LPN and working at Benedictine Heights Hospital until her marriage to Dean May in Tonkawa, Oklahoma in 1950. Dean and Lora were married 51 years and shared a wonderful life together until Dean's passing in 2001. Together they owned Dean's Cleaners in Guthrie for 25 years.

Lora Lu is survived by her children Deanne May of Santa Fe, New Mexico, David May and wife Patsy of Edmond, Oklahoma, Phillip May and wife Janice of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Luci May-Duran of Oklahoma, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Lora Lu was a beloved mother, grandmother, friend and business woman. She was devout and active in catholic community work, St. Mary's Catholic Church and School. A prayer vigil will be held at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Hayes Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend James Wickersham officiating.

We will all miss her.
