Wesley Irvin Maxwell

Wesley Irvin Maxwell
October 8, 1932 ~ November 25, 2022

Wesley Maxwell age 90 of Lexington, passed away on November 25, 2022. Wesley Irvin Maxwell was born on October 8, 1932 in Wingate, Indiana to Lawrence K. Maxwell and Esther Elizabeth Maxwell (Hutchinson). He loved to tell the story that his father paid the doctor who delivered him, with a bushel of corn. Wesley came into the world during the depression, the second oldest of nine children, and the oldest boy of the family. His father enlisted to serve in World War II when Wesley was just ten years old, which made him the man of the house. He ran the family farm, milked cows, cared for his siblings and his mother- all while still attending school. When his father returned from the service, Wesley decided it was his turn to serve and he enlisted in the United States Navy. From 1951-1955 Wesley sailed the world during the Korean War, working in the boiler rooms of the USS Coral Sea and USS Hornet. He loved the military, but left full time service to start his family. He joined the reserves, and became the father of four children.

Over the years Wesley held numerous jobs, he was a real estate broker, an insurance salesman, and a typesetter for a printing company. By chance Wesley called a wrong number and had a long conversation with Neva Miller. They enjoyed each other and the phone calls became a regular part of their routine until they were married on July 18, 2009. Wesley loved his home in Oklahoma and considered himself a true “Okie.” In his later years he loved spending time with his family, and often played Santa Clause at Christmas time. Throughout Wesley’s life, he maintained a strong faith. As a young man he taught in church and was even Superintendent of Sunday Schools. Once he settled in Oklahoma, he enjoyed attending McGuire Road Baptist Church and Sunray Baptist Church as well. Wesley was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and man of faith who will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Wesley was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Esther Maxwell, his sister Catherine Brand, brother Don Maxwell, infant sister Jo Ann Maxwell, and his son Kevin Maxwell.

He is survived by his wife Neva Maxwell of the home. His brothers, Bob Maxwell and wife Linda, Billy Maxwell and wife Marna, and Marion Maxwell all of Crawfordsville, Indiana. His sisters Susie Drexel and husband Denny, and Betty Harris of Aztec, New Mexico. His Children, Brad Maxwell and wife Angela of Pennsylvania, Brent Maxwell and wife Anita of Avon, Indiana, Pamela Gash of Minnesota, LeeAnna Forster and husband John of Lexington, and Tara Keeler of Purcell. Wesley also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, one great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Wesley’s family will host a come and go memorial service and reception at their home, 618 E. Almond Street, Lexington, OK 73051, on Saturday December 3, 2022 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Send online condolences at www.wilsonlittle.com
