Barbara Joann (Taylor) Matthews

Barbara Joann (Taylor) Matthews
February 21, 1944 ~ September 25, 2018

Boj Matthews, 74, of Bartlesville, died Tuesday in Bartlesville.

Boj, or Boji as she was known by her siblings, was born the daughter of Houston L. and Edith P. (Horner) Taylor on Feb. 21, 1944, at the Claremore Indian Hospital. The family lived in Pruneville, just outside of Bartlesville. She was raised and educated in Bartlesville graduating with the College High Class of 1966.

During her senior year Boj was united in marriage with John L. Matthews who enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska. While John was away Boj lived with her grandmother Lydia Horner. Boj worked several memorable jobs including Haines Greenhouse, Osage Theater in downtown Bartlesville and the ARC Thrift Store as its manager. After 20 years of marriage she was suddenly widowed in 1980 but she carried on and a few years later met and married Bob Wilson. They worked together in his upholstery shop and after 20 years together, Bob preceded her in death in 2008. Most recently Boj found great satisfaction in working at the school cafeteria where her precious great nephew DeShawn attends school.

Boj's passion in life was caring for others. Although she never had children of her own, she showered those around her with love and attention. She was aware of everyone's birthdays and anniversaries, celebrating those special occasions and oftentimes preparing her famous chocolate sheet cake. Boj was always busy cleaning her home, cooking, helping others and spending special time with family and friends.

Boj is survived by her brother Michael W. Taylor and Bonnie of Nashville, TN; three sisters, Eunice Bonnett and Melvin, Pat Morris, and Rosie Tucker, all of Bartlesville; five nephews, Kenny, Jeff, Charley, Scott and Bruce; three nieces Micah, BreAwna and Jessica; great nephew DeShawn Wright; and many more special family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands John and Bob, sister Naomi Wright and niece Pamela Morris.

Boj's family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home – Walker Brown Chapel, 918-333-7665, 4201 Nowata Rd, Bartlesville, on Friday, Sept. 28, from 6-8 p.m. The family encourages all who attend to wear Boji's favorite color purple to celebrate her life. Visitation will also be held on Friday from 12-8.

Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Walker Brown Chapel. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com
