Stewart Wakefield Mason

Stewart Wakefield Mason
March 29, 1978 ~ December 19, 2011

Funeral services for Stewart Wakefield Mason, age 33, and a life long resident of Norman, Oklahoma will begin at 10:00 am Thursday, December 22, 2011 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 235 West Duffy in Norman.

The family will greet friends from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman.

Stewart was born March 29, 1978 the son of Richard G. and Charline E. (Braud) Mason in Norman, Oklahoma. He passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 19, 2011 at his home.

Stew, as he was known by his family and friends, attended Norman Public Schools, graduating from Norman High School in 1996. He enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 2006. While at OU, Stew advanced his studies, nearly completing a triple major in Math and Spanish. At the time of his death he was working toward a Masters Degree.

Stew served as a counselor for the Community After-School Program in Norman for many years. He had a passion working with young people and enjoyed shaping and mentoring young lives.

Stew was also active in many bands through out the years, playing the drums, more specifically being the percussionist. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed snowboarding when time permitted. Stew also spent time with his his step-dad, Roger Neufeldt, traveling to Sports Collectors Shows, viewing and searching for Sports Memorabilia.

Stew's best days were spent being a daddy to his little girl, Emily Claire. He was an awesome dad, laughing and sharing special moments with little Emily. She occupied a place in her daddy's heart that only a little girl can. Any father that has a daughter understands exactly what type of a relationship this is. Emily was simply the apple of her daddy's eye. He will be greatly missed, but will live in the hearts and minds of others, but more importantly, in the life of little Emily.

In addition to his daughter, Stew is survived by his mother and step-father, Charlie Mason-Neufeldt and Roger Neufeldt of Norman; his father and step-mother, Richard and Linda Mason of Edmond; two sisters, Blakeley Hamit and her husband, Kevin of Wayne, OK; Jane Lindsey Norton of San Antonio. Texas; one niece, Addie Rose Hamit; and a host of additional family and friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Dawn Michelle Mason on September 10, 1972; his maternal grandparents, Victor and Wynn Braud and his paternal grandparents, H.B. and Rose Mason.

Arrangements for Stewart and his family were placed in the care of the Vice Family at Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
